Over 6.3 million units of the second generation of the VW Golf were produced between August 1983 and December 1992. A key pillar of the range from the outset was the GTI, which rounded off the series at the sporty top end. The models from the first facelift can be easily recognised by their enlarged side windows and the front-set wing mirrors. However, these early facelift GTIs still featured the original, small bumpers.
Our model is based on a GTI from the late 1980s. Diamond Silver exterior paint, steel wheels, an 8V engine, red trim stripes on the radiator grille and bumpers, and the wraparound black trim line were the typical features – and were among the most desirable elements that young and young-at-heart people imagined in a sporty compact car.
