The VW 1303 was born from a proposed American regulation that ultimately never came into force. Among the requirements was a minimum distance between the windshield and the driver’s head, a constraint that led Volkswagen to adopt a curved windshield. The model was nevertheless developed and later marketed in the United States under the name “Super Beetle.”
For this reproduction, Norev draws inspiration from one of the most iconic special versions of the VW 1303. Its striking yellow and black livery, steel sport wheels, sport steering wheel and seats, along with bumpers without rubber strips, give it a bold and immediately recognizable character. Despite its dynamic appearance, it retained the standard mechanical specification of a 1303 S.
As distinctive as it was eye-catching, this special edition even sparked debate in the German Bundestag, where some feared that such an expressive design might encourage overly spirited driving.
