It was a must-have for schoolboys of the era, introduced in December 1964, just in time for Christmas. Based on Colin Chapman’s streamlined design that first raced in 1962 and was famously driven by Jim Clark, this superb Corgi is painted in a classic ‘British racing green’ livery, with a yellow racing stripe and that all important number one decal. Strangely, the box illustration showed the car with a number four. Best of all, it came with a miniature driver, perfect for holding your own Grand Prix on the living room carpet! It was deleted in 1975, by which time racing cars looked very different indeed.","brand":"Corgi","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55660146393472,"sku":"CD54321003","price":45.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0822\/1782\/8676\/files\/CD54321003.jpg?v=1781410159"},{"product_id":"18983-volvo-p-1800-1961-la-voiture-du-saint-serie-tv-1-45-n258","title":"Volvo P 1800 1961 The Saint's Car (TV Series) 1:45 - n°258","description":"Renowned for being Corgi’s first licensed product, this popular model was created to tie in with the ‘Saint’ TV show featuring future James Bond, Roger Moore. The P.1800 model had been first issued by Corgi in 1961, as number 228. Originally available in either red, beige or salmon pink, it was deleted in 1965 to make way for this new version. With white paintwork to match the car seen on TV, a detailed red interior, the iconic ‘Saint’ logo on the bonnet and a miniature Simon Templar at the wheel – the character Roger Moore played in the show – it was an instant success. Nearly 1,160,000 were sold before it was deleted from the range in 1970. The bodywork is based on a Series 1 which it shares with the 406. Despite having a swivelling roof-mounted spotlight, its best feature is undoubtedly a fully-working winch, ingeniously operated by turning a spare wheel on the Land Rover’s nearside body. Corgi revived the model in 1968, giving it a new 477 catalogue number. The new version was similar in appearance but featured a plastic half-hood and a different Corgi livery. With a sleek white body and twin red bonnet stripes, this new racing model sensibly omitted the previous version’s small plastic corgi dog on the parcel shelf. Despite being given a new red body, the box artwork stayed the same, depicting the earlier model’s white exterior. Given the catalogue number, 215S, the new red Thunderbird remained in the Corgi range until 1965. There was one further subtle difference between the two models. The details didn’t end there as Corgi bestowed the model with tiny bonnet-mounted mirrors, a separately moulded exhaust and beautifully modelled spoked wheels. Based on American cars, each model included a driver figure in the left-hand seat. More notably, each had an unusual horizontally split die-cast body – a casting that allowed the top and bottom of the models to be painted separately, without the need for masking. This meant less wastage at the factory due to paint errors and allowed Corgi to create the taxi’s striking red and yellow scheme.","brand":"Corgi","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55660147671424,"sku":"CD54321020","price":45.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0822\/1782\/8676\/files\/CD54321020.jpg?v=1781410288"},{"product_id":"18994-citroen-ds-version-monte-carlo-1-47-n323","title":"Citroën DS Monte-Carlo Trim 1:47 - n°323","description":"The Citroen DS19 was first tooled by Corgi at the beginning of 1957 (as Corgi 210) and is notable for being the first ever non-British car in the Corgi range. With classic Corgi spun hubs and Glidamatic suspension, the model features rear doors that open to reveal a two colour interior complete with a small table, a cooker, venetian blinds and even a foam cushion on one for the miniature seats. Injection moulded, the interior was yet another first for Corgi, a significant upgrade in quality compared to typical vacuum-formed plastics of the time. The HQ Staff Car was the exception and is now regarded as one of the most collectible of all Corgi Oldsmobile 88s – due to its low sales at the time and therefore relative scarcity today. Despite being based on an early Corgi tooling (from 1962), it is a fine model in its own right and features a full complement of passengers – a driver and three other figures.","brand":"Corgi","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55660148556160,"sku":"CD54321030","price":45.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0822\/1782\/8676\/files\/CD54321030.jpg?v=1781410354"},{"product_id":"19001-studebaker-golden-hawk-1-49n211s","title":"Studebaker Golden Hawk 1:49 - n°211S","description":"Only the second non-British car to be modelled by Corgi, the Studebaker Golden Hawk was introduced into the range in 1958 – just two years after the very first die-cast Corgi Toys were produced. It was initially available in two guises – as Corgi 211 (in blue with gold fin detailing), or as the quirky mechanised Corgi 211M (in white, again with gold on the fins). The latter was deleted after just one year – the result of disappointing sales – whilst production of 211 ended in 1960 when it was superceded by Corgi 211S. The new ‘S’ prefix denoted the addition of spring suspension. It was also given a detailed red interior. Introduced in June 1964, Corgi 236 was right-hand drive but was complemented by an otherwise identical left-hand drive version for the export market, Corgi 255. Corgi 236 came in a slightly lighter blue than its left-hand drive counterpart. Both stayed in production until 1968. Both the fire and police versions included driver and passenger figures – whereas the taxi had just a driver.
