Corgi

The Corgi brand was created by the Mettoy company based in Northampton, England. Mettoy had already been making pressed tin toys since 1936.

The name Corgi was chosen for three reasons: it was short and sounded good, it was close in sound to the competitor Dinky Toys and it was associated with the Royal Family, who were fans of the dog breed of the same name.

In December 2006, Corgi merged with Master Replicas and was acquired by Hornby in May 2008.
