Oldsmobile Toronado 1966 1:43 - n°276
The launch of the Ford Mustang at the New York World's Fair in April 1964 caused a sensation and the Capri, originally codenamed the Colt, was designed to emulate this success in Europe. Like the Mustang, it was an attractive, ambitious but practical sports coupé that boosted Ford's image with numerous motorsport successes and was profitable because it shared components with higher-volume saloons. Revealed in 1969 and cleverly marketed as 'The car you always promised yourself', the Capri was an instant success and could be ordered as an economical 1.3-litre or a spirited 3-litre. Production continued through three generations and almost 1.9 million cars until 1986.
