Released in 1972, the internally named W116 model series represented the pinnacle of automotive engineering. No competitor model combined as many attributes as the S-Class for the 1970s. With the introduction of the 6.9 litre engine in 1975, the saloon achieved performance levels that were otherwise reserved for pure sports cars.
Almost unthinkable today, large saloons in eye-catching colours were also offered and bought in the 1970s. Painted in petrol, colour code DB877, with a beige interior and a Bonn number plate, Norev cites a typical diplomatic vehicle of those days.
