Berliet T100 n°4 1959 on the way to Tulsa 1:43
This truck is the fourth and last of the T100 trucks produced by Berliet.
The French brand wished to conquer the USA, and the project was to present a T100 model at the May 1959 World Fair in Tulsa. For this, Paul Berliet wanted a truck with a strong and futuristic design.
The design of the T100 No. 4 differs from the previous T100s in that it has a forward-facing, nose-less cab. Its habitability and comfort are also a novelty on the T100.
Our miniature reproduces this truck which left Lyon for a shipment to the USA in its winch-equipped platform configuration.
At more than 29cm long in 1/43 scale, the gigantic dimensions of the real model are felt.
Manufactured in the Berliet factory of Monplaisir in Lyon, it is on the day of March 9, 1959 that the T100 n°4 starts its journey through France towards Le Havre, where its embarkation for the USA is planned on March 25. At the rate of 30km/h, stops are planned in stopover towns and are opportunities for Berliet to present the truck to the population and to the employees of its branches. The convoy attracts a lot of people and the local press of the cities it passes through shower the "biggest truck in the world" with praise.
