What does the Opel emblem mean ?


The Opel logo is a flash of lightning passing through a circle. At the beginning of the 20th century, the logo varied a lot, but generally, it was about the word "Opel" being written in full spelling and in various formats. In 1937, the logo is a zeppelin, symbol of innovation, which crosses a circle. It was in 1961 that the lightning bolt shape appeared alone as an emblem on the hood of the light and fast truck Opel Blitz. The circle reappeared in 1964 around lightning.



What innovations can be mentioned ?


Opel is a manufacturer that has been constantly innovating since its creation. In 1924, it was the first German manufacturer to switch to large-scale production with the introduction of the chain construction system. In 1935, the Opel Olympia, the first German car with a self-supporting steel body, was manufactured. Opel was also a pioneer in the field of aerodynamics. In 1981, Tech 1 study allowed a world record on an experimental vehicle with a drag coefficient (Cx) of 0.235. Later on, this study gave birth to the 1984 Opel Kadett GSi with a Cx of 0.30 and the Opel Calibra with a Cx of 0.26 in 1989. It was the production car with such a low penetration coefficient.



Is Opel an international brand ?


Since 1980, many Opel models have been found all over the world under different labels. These cars are sold as Chevrolets in South America, as Holdens in Australia and New Zealand, and as Buicks in China and North America.
